Well, it is March, and the smell of flowers and mowed lawns is in the air. Yet, the hint of fall can be seen everyday from 1:20 to 2:50 in the weight room and the fields of Del Oro High School. The 2007 Varsity football is working extremely hard to make next year as successful as those in recent memory. Right now we have 62 juniors, sophomores, and freshmen in the football class. They spend 3 days a week lifting, doing plyometrics, running, and conditioning with their sights set on that early September Friday night when they will get a chance to show what they are made of against the hated Oak Ridge Trojans. Last week began the first of our two-days a week practices. We don’t have any pads, but our spring field days give the coaches a chance to teach skills and techniques for the upcoming season.
The boys are working very hard in the weight room and on the field. Later this spring they will be competing for some of our off season rewards. As the time gets closer to May, I will keep you updated on which players are excelling in the weight room and on the field.
As for the outlook for next year, the Golden Eagles have a number of All-League players returning for their Senior Year. Defensively, 6 All-League players return, led by 2006 SFL Defensive Player of the Year Hunter Pahl. Hunter was named one of the top 35 linebackers in the state of
