tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32036971054755305602011-04-21T15:25:40.473-07:00Golden Eagles Staffnoreply@blogger.comBlogger11100tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3203697105475530560.post-27595098158780532772007-04-19T15:02:00.000-07:002007-04-20T16:12:44.434-07:00<p class="MsoNormal">Well, it is March, and the smell of flowers and mowed lawns is in the air.<span style="font-size:0;"> </span>Yet, the hint of fall can be seen everyday from 1:20 to 2:50 in the weight room and the fields of Del Oro High School.<span style="font-size:0;"> </span>The 2007 Varsity football is working extremely hard to make next year as successful as those in recent memory.<span style="font-size:0;"> </span>Right now we have 62 juniors, sophomores, and freshmen in the football class.<span style="font-size:0;"> </span>They spend 3 days a week lifting, doing plyometrics, running, and conditioning with their sights set on that early September Friday night when they will get a chance to show what they are made of against the hated Oak Ridge Trojans.<span style="font-size:0;"> </span>Last week began the first of our two-days a week practices.<span style="font-size:0;"> </span>We don’t have any pads, but our spring field days give the coaches a chance to teach skills and techniques for the upcoming season.<span style="font-size:0;"> </span></p><p class="MsoNormal">The boys are working very hard in the weight room and on the field.<span style="font-size:0;"> </span>Later this spring they will be competing for some of our off season rewards.<span style="font-size:0;"> </span>As the time gets closer to May, I will keep you updated on which players are excelling in the weight room and on the field.</p><p class="MsoNormal">As for the outlook for next year, the Golden Eagles have a number of All-League players returning for their Senior Year.<span style="font-size:0;"> </span>Defensively, 6 All-League players return, led by 2006 SFL Defensive Player of the Year Hunter Pahl.<span style="font-size:0;"> </span>Hunter was named one of the top 35 linebackers in the state of <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 /><st1:state st="on"><st1:place st="on">California</st1:place></st1:state> by Cal-Hi Sports.<span style="font-size:0;"> </span>Linebackers Ryan Otten and Jeremy Hart, Defensive Lineman Jack Reynoso, and Defensive Backs Andrew Meteer and Craig Andri, all return as All-League players a year ago.<span style="font-size:0;"> </span>Offensively, we have a lot of holes to fill by graduation.<span style="font-size:0;"> </span>Only All-League Offensive Tackle Jason Heath, returns from a potent offense from a year ago.<span style="font-size:0;"> </span>We expect many seniors who were back ups a year ago and many juniors from our 8-2 JV team to step up and make some contributions this year.<span style="font-size:0;"> </span></p><p class="MsoNormal">Who are those seniors and juniors?<span style="font-size:0;"> </span>You will just have to wait until the next Birch’s Blog to find out.<span style="font-size:0;"> </span>Until then, Remember Black and Gold will always be Bold!</p><div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/3203697105475530560-2759509815878053277?l=goldeneaglesfootball.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>Golden Eagles Staffnoreply@blogger.com1
